The glacier in southern Argentina (Patagonia) is world famous for its size and ease of access. I had the amazing opportunity of trekking onto the ice for 4 hours (for a total of 8 hours walking around, driving and sailing)! This is a MUST DO if going down to El Calafate! The sheer size and magnitude of the glacier is awe-inspiring and really gives off that ‘wow factor’ … I honestly couldn’t believe how huge this was. Pictures really do not show how amazing this place is.
We first took the bus to the overlooking platforms on the north side of the glacier (seen on the cover picture of this post). Hung about for an hour taking pictures and freezing to death. Then we took the bus to the port to board a boat taking us across the nearly-freezing waters. The trekking began there!
